A beautiful green lawn is one of the most important parts of the garden. The best way of getting a beautiful lawn is by mowing it on a regular base.
Mow the lawn every week or every other week, up to autumn. Water the lawn after each cut especially during summer when there’s not enough rain. Don’t cut the lawn too short in colder weather.
One of the advantages of mowing regularly is that annual weeds don’t get a chance to grow. Fertilizing the lawn is essential to ensure good growth and to keep it green.
Don’t use any fertilizer containing nitrogen after summer, so the growth will slow down and frost-damage will be limited.
Ventilating the lawn
In order to get rid of and prevent moss from growing it is important to ventilate the lawn. You can achieve this by raking the grass in spring and loosening the ground.
We use scarifying and aerating machines which remove the dead grass thatch and moss and aerates the soil. Most lawns need scarifying each spring and where the soil is heavy or compacted it might be necessary to have your lawn aerated every year.
The Fertilizer takes out small pieces of soil up to 7cm depth which makes it easier for the grass to breathe, compost or soil is then used to top dress the lawn.
The finishing touch of lawn maintenance
Stripes create the finishing touch on your lawn. These can easily be obtained by using a lawnmower which has a roller at the back. Walk in opposite directions on each row and your lawn will look fabulous. Cutting the edges provides the finishing touches.
Many cutting shears are available, we prefer to use an edger which gives us the quickest and best result.
Mow the lawn on a regular base, make sure there’s enough nutrients and keep the lawn moist.
Scarify or rake the lawn in spring to eliminate moss-growth.
Aerate the lawn in autumn when the soil is heavy and compact.
That way you’ll soon be the owner of a beautiful lawn.
